Airless bicycle tyre design that will never get a flat

bikeApproximately 1.3 billion bicycle tyres are thrown out every year because of cracks or puncture marks. Nexo North America’s two tyre models, Ever Tires and Nexo Tires, solve this problem with its airless design that will never get a flat.

Ever Tires has a modified solid tyre design comprised of a polymer blend with a series of holes that have been engineered to offer exceptional control and outstanding durability, offering a smooth ride that rivals an inflated tyre.

Its airless design also means no more leaks, so owners can ride over pins, nails and other materials that would usually damage standard rubber tyres.

Each tyre is expected to last for up to 5,000 miles as compared to approximately 3,000 miles for a standard high-end rubber bicycle tyre.

They also use a single polymer blend material, which makes the tyres easy to manufacture and recycle than more conventional rubber tyres.

Each Ever Tire only goes through one manufacturing process and taking a mere 30 minutes to produce. This simple production cycle is a marked improvement over conventional rubber tyres that require several steps including mastication, vulcanisation and the addition of chemicals like sulfur at high heat (280 degrees Fahrenheit) to make the tyre material durable.

However, one possible drawback for bicycle owners is that the Ever Tire needs a specialised rim to accommodate the airless design.

For cyclists who don’t want to purchase a new set of rims and replace their own, the company created the Nexo Tire, which is designed to fit on existing bicycle rims.

The Nexo Tires use patented T-bolts that fit under the lip of a standard rubber tyre rim. These bolts extend down into the airless tire to hold it into place.

Both tyre models are still in the Kick starter pre-order campaign period and the company expects to start delivering the Nexo Tire and Ever Tire in January 2017. Both tyres are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate youth, off-road and road bicycles.
