Starting this month, Swedish auto maker Volvo Car Group will start exporting China-made midsize sedans to the US, and might also build a vehicle factory there, those close to the company said.
The cars include Volvo S60L (produced in Chengdu, China) and a sedan which the company calls “strategic, flagship”.
“The S60L ofers class-leading rear space, something that has been consistently demanded by US customers. It will be made at Volvo’s plant in Chengdu, China, and will be on show for the first time at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit,” David Ibison, a Gothenburg, Sweden-based Volvo spokesman, said.
The moves aim to revive Volvo’s momentum in the US market. Last year, sales were a paltry 56, 371 cars. The sales in China, however, are on the rise, with 465,866 vehicles sold last year, up 9% from 2013.
