The editors of Popular Science have selected the Michelin Premier A/S tyre as one of the Top 100 innovations of 2014. Named to the magazine’s annual Best of What’s New list in the Automotive category, the revolutionary Michelin Premier A/S tyre with EverGrip features an evolving tread design and high-traction rubber compound to deliver exceptional levels of wet grip providing enhanced safety even as the tyres wear down.
“We are honored to have the Michelin Premier A/S recognized as a significant leap forward in innovation by the world’s largest science and technology magazine,” said Scott Clark, chief operating officer of Michelin North America’s passenger and light truck tyre division. “The Premier A/S reflects our continued commitment to staying on the leading-edge of research and development so that we can continue to provide consumers with new products that make their driving experience safer and more enjoyable.”
Even when worn, the Michelin Premier A/S tyre with EverGrip technology still stops shorter on wet roads than the leading competitors’ brand new tyres. The Michelin Premier A/S tyre provides confidence over time when driving on wet roads through a combination of hidden grooves in the shoulder that emerge as the tyre wears down, expanding rain grooves around the center that widen over time to continue to evacuate water and a unique rubber compound that continues to deliver enhanced wet grip performance.
Labeling the Premier A/S the “No-Slip Tire,” the editors wrote, “On wet roads, treads siphon away water, making it less likely that the car will skid or hydroplane. Still, drivers often wear tyres until they’re nearly bald. Adapting to consumer behavior, Michelin designed grooves that widen over time (the opposite of most tyres) as well as grooves that emerge as the tyre wears down. The Premier A/S is also built from a new high-silica compound that provides better traction in the rain.”
Each year, Popular Science editors review thousands of new products and innovations and choose the top 100 winners across 12 categories for inclusion in the annual Best of What’s New issue. To win, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category.
“For 27 years, Popular Science has honored the innovations that surprise and amaze us – those that make a positive impact on our world today and challenge our view of what?s possible in the future,” said Cliff Ransom, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Science. “The Best of What?s New Award is the magazines top honor, and the 100 winners ? chosen from among thousands of entrants ? each a revolution in its field.”
