Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling certain Wild Country Radial XTX Sport tyres, size 265/65R18. The tyres were manufactured June 1, 2014, through June 28, 2014.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign ID number is 14T008. The potential number of affected units is 1,492.
According to NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation, the affected tyres may experience cracking and broken ply cords in the lower sidewall on the intended outboard side above the rim. As such, these tyres fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139, “New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles.”
“If the tyre experiences cracking or broken ply cords, this will increase the risk of a tire blowout and the risk of a vehicle crash,” says NHTSA.
Cooper is in the process of notifying owners. Dealers will inspect and test the suspected tires and replace the ones that need to be replaced free of charge.
Owners may contact Cooper customer service at (800) 854-6288. Cooper’s number for this recall is 159.
