Recently, a fire razed the warehouse of a factory that produces rubber gloves for medical use in the industrial area of Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.
The incident, which occurred at 9.45am, also destroyed several container lorries parked in the warehouse.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said 45 firemen from 11 fire stations were involved in fighting the fire at the warehouse, covering 3,716 square metres.
“The fire was brought under control about an hour later with five fire engines deployed from the Hang Tuah, Pandan, Bangi and Seremban 2 fire stations and four water tankers from the Cyberjaya, Banting, Sepang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) fire stations.”
The factory operates 24 hours and there were 20 workers when the fire broke out, but no injuries or loss of life were reported.
He said initial investigations showed the fire may have been caused by maintenance work carried out at the factory, but the actual reason and estimated losses have yet to be determined as the case is being investigated.
Meanwhile, in George Town, several double-storey shophouses were damaged by fire in Jalan C.Y. Choy here today.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Abd Fataf Amdan said the shops involved in the 1.30pm fire were a stationery shop, a motorcycle shop, a beauty salon and two homes.
“Five of the properties were destroyed while the other buildings suffered 15 to 20% damages.”
He said five engines with 40 firefighters, including volunteer firefighters from Jalan Perak and Lebuh Pantai stations, took more than an hour to extinguish the fire.
