GERMAN specialty chemicals company Lanxess recently held a topping-out ceremony at its butyl rubber (BTR) plant in Jurong Island, Singapore, to commemorate the structural completion of all the buildings on the site.
It was a double celebration for the BTR team as the ceremony also coincided with the completion of the project’s engineering phase. The plant will include some 3,500 tonnes of steel, 350 km of cabling and 80 km of piping when it begins operations in the first quarter of 2013.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the plant was held last year and construction is on schedule with approximately 1,700 workers now working on the site, to complete construction.
The EUR400 million plant is Lanxess’s largest investment in its history and will employ some 200 employees when in full production.(PRA)
