Yokohama launches winter tyre video

California-based tyre maker Yokohama tyres launches its latest “Tyre tips” video for winter tyres, an educational video series for consumers.

YTC’s manager of public relations and digital marketing, and Nate Ortega, YTC’s performance marketing specialist, Theresa Palang, explained in the video the significance of winter tyres and their proper usage.

“One of the most common questions we get asked at Yokohama is whether a driver really needs winter tires,” said Palang. “Many people have all-season tires on their vehicles, which is fine for most conditions.  However, they may not be the best choice in serious winter circumstances. That’s when winter tires become a necessity.”

According to Ortega, the main difference between the two tyres can be found in their mixture. The one is designed to withstand colder temperatures and have better tractions in all weather conditions.

He also added that winter tyres have more advantage because of the special design of it that is appropriate for the condition. He cited the iceGUARD iG51v™ as an example, Yokohama’s winter tyre that has 3D-shaped sipes that interlock to improve the grip of the tyres on the road and the zig-zag edges that can evacuate water quickly to avoid hydroplaning.

“All-season tires may be enough if you live in a part of the U.S. that sees only light snow and moderately cold temperatures,” said Palang.  “But if you live in a part of the country where temperatures frequently drop below 32 degrees, investing in winter tires is a wise decision.” (RJA)
