Reconstruction project in major NYC airport to use recycled rubber construction mats

A New York-based recycled rubber products company, RubberForm Recycled Products (RubberForm), is seeing its products being used as part of an US$8 billion project to rebuild a portion of LaGuardia Airport in the city; it includes a new Delta Airlines terminal with 37 gates and four concourses as well new lobby, security, baggage claim and concession areas. RubberForm said its Trackout Control Mats are being used to keep construction vehicles from tracking construction site debris onto roadways as they exit.

RubberForm’s Trackout Control Mats are made of 100% recycled composite material and are designed to compete against other control methods including gravel, metal plates, plastic mats and wash pits. The company explained that the mats would greatly help construction vehicles – in classes one to nine – as they can knock off loose debris such as dirt or stone as the vehicles travel over them.

“Carryout from construction vehicles can quickly get out of control if not regulated. Significant track out on roadways can create hazardous driving conditions for drivers and contribute toward airborne and waterborne pollution,” RubberForm said.
