Mitsubishi announces no car recall in the Philippines

minicaJAPANESE car maker Mitsubishi Motors Corp has given an assurance that there is no reason for recall for vehicles sold in the Philippines because they are defects-free.

The statement has been noted amidst a recent recall of some 650,000 small cars in Japan.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp (MMPC) said that the country is not affected by the reportedly recalls of the company’s three models of small cars in Japan, manufactured between September 1998 and May 2011. “One of the models being recalled is the Minica, which was not introduced here in the country,” it said.

Earlier, Mitsubishi Motors has announced recalling thousands of mini cars in Japan due to a defective part – a plastic clip holding the air intake duct in the car’s engine – and this could lead to a fire.

The company furthered that 70 vehicles affected by the recall were sold overseas, including Singapore.

Despite the reports of recall, MMPC is hopeful to up its sales volume in the second half of the year, with upgrades being introduced to its cars and the offering of the new Mirage G4.

The firm sold a total of 34,915 units last year and in the first semester of the current year, it sold a total of 21,282 units – 25.5% higher than the 16,956 units sold during the same period last year.

MMPC vice president for marketing services Froilan Dytianquin said earlier the firm is optimistic it could further increase its sales volume in the second half given upgrades to its bestselling models as well as the introduction of the Mirage G4.
