Despite the falling prices of rubber, tyre prices remain unaffected. That is why the Kuala Lumpur Consumers Safety Association (PKP) urges manufacturers, distributors and dealers of tyres and petroleum related products.
PKP therefore urged the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) to take proactive measures to tackle an increase in the prices of tyres and automotive products in the country.
Persatuan Keselamatan Pengguna Kuala Lumpur (PKPKL) president Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi said the prices of automotive products like tyres should not increase since the price of petroleum has dropped since last year.
Some automotive industry players are also taking the opportunity to charge sales tax, service tax plus the goods and services tax, forcing tyre prices to go up by 16% from the original price.
“PKP will submit a memorandum to KPDNKK soon, urging the ministry to look into the prices of tyres and automotive related products,” Mohamad Fauzi told Bernama. He also said consumers who are charged exorbitant prices for tyres or automotive related products can lodge a complaint to PKP at 03-91015096.
