TOYO Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. has completed its US$260 million passenger and light truck tyre plant in Malaysia, with production expected to hit or exceed 200,000 tyres a month before the end of the year.
A ceremony hosted by Toyo President Akira Nobuki has been held to mark its completion.
The new Perak-based plant was built near the Toto-acquired Silverstone Bhd.tyre plant, and will
be serving Malaysia, and other ASEAN states.
Using Toyo’s proprietary Advanced Tire Operation Module (ATOM) production system, the plant’s capacity is expected to reach an estimated 2.5 million units a year in the first few years, then gear up to 5 million/year by 2016 and to double on demand.
