Japan-based tyre and rubber company Sumitomo Industries develops a new tyre manufacturing system called the NEO-T01, saying it is “created in the pursuit of ultra-high precision tyre production technology”.
NEO is an acronym formed from the words ‘Next (Generation),’ ‘Elaborate’ and ‘Orb.’ The letter ‘T’ represents ‘Taiyo (Sun),’ ‘Technology’ and ‘Tyre’; while the ‘01’ stands for the ‘first iteration’ of our next generation manufacturing system,” the company said.
Pioneering in the manufacture of the local automobile tyre in Japan in 1913, Sumitomo, has contributed significantly to the advancement of the tyre production industry.
The new tyre production technology, NEO-T01, features three key technologies : the Metal Core Process, Fully Automatic Connected Control and High-Rigidity Structure.
For the first batch of production using the new system, the company plans to release its new tyres, which it said will “provide excellent balance between lightness, safety and driving comfort in 2014.” (RJA)
