Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd (SRI) has switched to 100% renewable energy at its two tire factories in China (Changshu Factory and Hunan Factory).
Furthermore, with plans to set up solar power generators in the second half of the year, these two factories will lower their total annual CO2 emissions from tire manufacturing processes by an estimated 70% compared to their 2021 emissions levels.
The strategy is consistent with the company’s new Corporate Philosophy Framework, which was adopted in December 2020 and emphasizes engaging in sustainable business activities, as well as its long-term sustainability policy, “Driving Our Future Challenge 2050,” which was launched in August 2021 and aims to reduce total CO2 emissions by half at all of the company’s factories globally. The goal is to be completely carbon neutral by 2050.
