CHINESE firm Sinochem has announced its scheduled expansion of plantations by 20, 000 hectares in the South Region of Africa. The firm, which is one of the biggest state-owned companies in China and is the 168th largest corporation in the world, holds 90% stakes in the Niété-based Hevecam rubber company.
Accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Wo Ruidi, Sinochem President and CEO Liu Deshu, led a delegation of eight, to the Prime Minister Philemon Yang’s office in May, to discuss about intensifying rubber production activities in Cameroon.
The delegation also told the African state Head that they will replace ageing trees for sustainable rubber development.
Moreover, a spokesperson for Sinochem said that plans are underway to develop another project in Meyomessala, also in the South Region.
Sinochem, one of China’s four state oil companies, covers the energy, agriculture, chemical, real estate and financial services sectors, with investments in Africa and Cameroon in the rubber sector. The company employs 5,000 Cameroonians in rubber production.
