Sempermed, a subsidiary of the Semperit Group, invested EUR50mn to build a new glove factory in their Kamunting plant in Malaysia. This is the largest investment the Semperit group has ever made.
Construction has been ongoing since 2014, and Sempermed recently announce that the plant will open next year. Semperit is already operating six facilities for medical and protective gloves in the Kamunting plant since it acquired Latexx Partners Berhad back in 2012.
The new plant will have a higher production speed compared to the existing facilities. It will also have 50% less gas consumption and 20% less electricity needs.
“The integration of Latexx Partners into the Sempermed segment was successfully concluded last year. The capacity expansion drive at Latexx Partners will enable us to strengthen our position on the global glove market and move a decisive step closer towards achieving our designated growth targets”, says Thomas Fahnemann, Chief Executive Officer of Semperit AG Holding when the construction was just beginning.
“We can only reach this goal by offering competitive production costs. For this reason, the new facility will deploy state-of-the-art technologies as the basis for a high level of automation and the optimal use of natural resources. It will be one of the world’s most efficient manufacturing plants for nitrile gloves”, he adds.
