Sailun Tire rolls out first tyre at Indonesian facility

China’s Sailun Tire says it recently rolled out its first high-performance passenger car radial tyre produced at its Indonesian factory. With this, the company’s fourth overseas production base in Southeast Asia was officially put into production.

From the groundbreaking of the Indonesian project to the rollout of the first tyre, Sailun adds ut took less than 9 months. The tyre uses a low rolling resistance tread formula that precisely meets Indonesia’s fuel economy needs. The innovative groove drainage design solves the hidden dangers of driving safety in the rainy season in the region, improves wetland grip by 15%, and achieves the EU labelling law AA-level stability. This integration of “technology + scenario” not only demonstrates the global adaptability of Sailun’s tyre R&D system, but also opens up a new path for it to further expand the Southeast Asian market, the company says.

Indonesia, as the world’s fourth most populous country and one of the largest economies in Southeast Asia, has seen rapid development in the automotive manufacturing industry in recent years, and thus, the tyre market has seen strong demand.

Sailun Tire adds it has extensive experience in overseas project construction and management. The company’s global factories maintain uniformity in process specifications, quality control standards, and management processes, effectively ensuring that the Indonesian production base can quickly release effective production capacity in the first year of production.

After reaching full production, the factory will have an annual production capacity of 3.6 million radial tyres and 37,000 tonnes of off-road tyres.

In addition, at a time when international trade barriers are frequent, Indonesia’s abundant natural rubber resources and convenient port conditions also provide Sailun Tire with high-quality raw material guarantees and efficient logistics support. The commissioning of the Indonesian project can further enhance the company’s ability to cope with international trade barriers, which is of significance to enhancing the company’s international competitiveness and expanding its market share.

Sailun Tire is pursuing its globalisation strategy by setting up production bases in Vietnam and Cambodia to steadily advancing projects in Mexico and Indonesia.

In early 2025, the expansion project of Cambodia’s annual production capacity of 1.65 million all-steel tyres began construction and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2025, while the Mexican factory has an annual production capacity of 6 million tyres.

According to Sailun, based on the current construction progress, it is expected that the factory in Mexico will also be officially put into operation in the first half of this year.
