THE Philippine’s Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) has issued a work cessation order on a rubber tyre plant in Valenzuela City, Metro Manila due to a recent mishap that killed a mechanic working for the plant.
Based on investigations conducted by the labour agency, the Pilipinas KAI Rubber Corp. had violated core labour laws as well as occupational safety and health standards.
The accident happened when the door of one of the pressurised autoclaves ( chambers where tyres are retreaded) burst open due to failure of an nterlock–a mechanical safety device , thus killing a worker and injuring two others.
Apart from the incident, the plant’s management also failed to present pertinent records and permits , during the inspection.
