The State government in Malaysia has approved a budget of RM30 mil as incentive to small rubber producers in Sabah to motivate them to increase their rubber production and increase the income of the smallholders in the local rubber industry.
Datuk Yahya Hussin, Deputy Chief Minister also said that the incentive scheme is also aiming to achieve a standardised price of rubber in Sabah and to decrease the negative impacts of the continuous price drops.
“Since the incentive was given out on 30 September, a total of 20,816 settlers, tappers, participants of the Community Farm and smallholders have enjoyed assistance that amounted to RM3,941,458.66,” he said.
Yahya spoke about the incentive as a response to the question of Datuk Mijul Unani. He also said that the incentive would make the rubber prices the same with that of in the peninsula or even higher.
He said with the incentive, prices of rubber in Sabah would be equivalent to the peninsula and sometimes even higher. (RJA)
