Product liability suit filed against Michelin dismissed by Dallas County judge

MichelinA Dallas County, Texas judge granted summary judgement in a product liability lawsuit filed against Michelin North America, Inc. The lawsuit claimed that a defective tyre was the cause of a 2011 single-vehicle accident in Illinois that rendered the plaintiff quadriplegic.

The 134th Judicial District Court judge released a decision that says there was no evidence to support any of the plaintiff’s claims that the Michelin tyre was defective and that it caused the accident. The summary judgement was issued by the court two days before the trial.

Michelin was prepared to demonstrate to a jury that there was no defect in the tyre and other factors contributed to the accident. In response to the decision, Michelin also said it values the Court’s decision in this case and believes in the high quality of its tyres and the rigorous efforts it takes to ensure the safety of its product. Michelin went on to say it has and will continue to zealously defend its products in cases it knows are without merit.
