Global carbon black supplier Orion Engineered Carbons has converted a tyre-grade production line at its plant in Yeosu, South Korea to specialty and technical rubber products, impacting 20 kilo tonnes of carbon black.
According to Jack Clem, Orion’s Chief Executive Officer, the line conversion in Yeosu is one of the company’s next steps in an ongoing transition to higher value-added products for specialty and technical rubber applications.
“This project, along with our previously announced plans to expand the specialty and technical grade mix at our Qingdao, China plant, will continue our penetration of the rapidly growing North and Southeast Asian markets, as well as providing support for demand from the rest of the world,” Clem added.
The conversion process will begin during the fourth quarter of this year and is expected to be completed by July 2017.
