Master Bond’s new silicone meets specs for flame retardancy

masterbondFLEXIBLE and high-temperature resistant, MasterSil 156 from sealants, coatings and adhesives maker, Master Bond, passes the rigorous UL 94V-0 tests for flame retardancy. This two-part silicone system is addition cured and does not require exposure to air for complete cross-linking. It has a convenient one to one mix ratio by weight and will not outgas while curing.

Formulated for potting, encapsulation and sealing applications, MasterSil 156 is a competent electrical insulator with a low viscosity that can cure in sections beyond one to two inches thick. It is thermally conductive and is temperature rated to 105°C by UL in thicknesses up to ¼ inch and above. Its flexibility allows it to withstand aggressive thermal cycling and resist vibration and shock. Also, it is very resistant to water, humidity, oils and other environmental elements.

The new silicone bonds well to a wide variety of substrates including metals, composites, glass, ceramics and many rubbers and plastics. Since it is 100 percent solids and contains no solvents, its shrinkage upon cure is very low. It is available in a variety of standard packaging options ranging from ½-pint to five-gallon container kits. This silicone has a six-month shelf life at room temperature when stored in original, unopened containers.

Thermally conductive, flame retardant MasterSil 156 has good flow and electrical insulation properties, enabling it to be well suited for potting, sealing and encapsulation applications.
