Mars Mineral, a leader in the design and production of agitation pelletizing equipment and systems, is now providing solutions to companies that transform scrap tyres into high quality carbon black feedstock powder through pyrolysis. Mars Mineral pelletizing equipment converts recovered carbon black powder into pellets to facilitate handling and transport. Recovered carbon black (rCB) is useful as a tinting agent, strength additive, or UV protectant. rCB is an economical pigment for aerospace, appliance, automotive, electronics, furniture, industrial, marine, packaging film, and pipe coating applications. Products that incorporate rCB include asphalt additives; automotive hoses, belts, dashboards, rocker panels, door panels, spoilers, hoods and trunks; computer and mobile phone casings; green tyres; paints; and printing inks and toners.

“As thermal depolymerization technology continues to advance, demand for products containing recycled carbon black powder should increase,” says Clayton Woodward, president of Mars Mineral. “Our pelletizing systems are an enabling technology that can be useful in preparing a carbon black feedstock for manufacturing products that require a moderate or low degree of structural integrity.”

Mars Mineral’s pelletizing systems are helping rCB manufacturers to recycle some of the 1 billion tyres worldwide that are scrapped each year. Many of them end up in landfills. Alternatively, those tyres could be recycled using pyrolysis techniques that require heating scrap tyres at high temperatures to produce a powder that has commercial value. Mars Mineral’s pelletizing systems include a powder feeder, pin mixer, binder feed system, dryer, screener and bagger.

To help customers maximize the efficiency of their pelletizing systems Mars Mineral offers technical consultations, engineering services, and equipment startup assistance.
