The Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) expects the total export of medical examination and surgical gloves this year to reach almost 150 billion pieces and bring in estimated revenue of RM16.2 billion.
President, Denis Low Jau Foo said in a statement today that it was important for the government and the association to work hand-in-hand, to ensure Malaysia’s dominance of this very important protective medical device, at 63 % of global consumption.
“We are asking the government to extend and expand the reinvestment allowance in the Budget 2018 and line with the industry’s aspirations to fully automate and modernise manufacturing plants across the country,” he added.
Last year Malaysia exported RM13.28 billion worth of gloves. This year at the halfway mark, the figure stands at RM7.95 billion and is estimated to touch RM16.2 billion by year’s end.
“This is a whopping increase of about 24.6 % in terms of revenue gained for the country and mostly in US dollars too,” Low said.
