THE former Technical Rubber Products (BU TRP) business unit of Lanxess has been divided into two separate business units.
The ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (BU EPDM) business unit comprises the Keltan Elastomers, which started trading as an independent business unit under the same name of Keltan Elastomers (BU KEL). It is located at Geleen, The Netherlands.
The High Performance Elastomers (HPE) Business Unit comprises the rest of the TRP product portfolio (NBR, HNBR, EVM and CR). It will be headquartered in Cologne, Germany.
The acquisition of DSM’s Keltan business in May 2011 expanded the EPDM business line of TRP, creating by far the largest of all the business lines.
It has also strengthened Lanxess’s position as a leading supplier of special-purpose rubbers.
“The successful strategic development of EPDM to make us a global market leader and the specific features of all TRP business necessitate this split into two business units,” said the former BU TRP head Guenther Weymans, who took charge of BU KEL.
EPDM’s ,main applications are hoses, seals, belts and polymer additives.
Jan Paul de Vries, who was in charge of the Advanced Materials business line EMEA of the High Performance Materials business unit (BU HPM), now heads the new BU HPE. (RJA)
