US-based Momentive Performance Materials is collaborating with Sumitomo Rubber Industries on the development of Enasave Premium tyre, the first to use Momentive’s NXT Z 45 silane, a coupling agent for silica-based tyre tread compound.
Launched at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, the tyre earned the highest rating (AAA) for rolling resistance under Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association’s (JATMA) labelling system. It is the flagship tyre in the top-selling Enasave fuel-efficient tyre series.
Momentive says the use of the compound makes it an excellent candidate to consider for improved dynamic and physical properties, including rolling resistance and wet traction. The new silane is said to eliminate the ethanol that is released during the manufacturing and use of silica tyres. (PRA)
