Colombo, Sri Lanka-based specialty tyre manufacturer Global Rubber Industries (GRI) has recently started up a natural rubber (NR) collection centre in nearby Monaragala district. The new NR collection centre is part of GRI’s Green-X Circle initiative, which will allow local NR farmers “to earn fair value” in rubber trade. The centre will also offer training programs for rubber farmers who belong to the Green-X Circle.
GRI said the centre aptly illustrates what it calls the Green-X Circle concept, which includes rubber farmers, the GRI community and other agriculture farmers whose produce are consumed globally.
GRI CEO Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma explained that, through the centre, the farmers’ NR product(s) will be used locally “to build our high-grade agriculture tyres that are fitted on the machinery of farmers across the world, creating a unique value chain which begins and ends from ‘Farmer to Farmer.'”
“We are a company built on quality, authenticity and integrity– we will help the rural farming community to achieve their ambitions,” Ranasoma said.
