Two tyre recalls have been announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US, an agency under the country’s Department of Transportation.
Around 1,650 of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.’s G399A LHS tyres, size 295/75R22.5 LRG, curing press ID A6L and A6R, manufactured from January 24 to May 28 earlier this year in Danville, Virginia are being recalled.
Incomplete adhesion may cause tread separation of the tire while it is being used, possibly causing a crash. The defects were caught by Goodyear during routine tests, the company said.
The affected tyres were supplied to Freightliner, Volvo Trucks N.A., Paccar, and Navistar as original equipment for some vehicles, and were sold as replacement tyres.
The company will notify affected vehicle manufacturers and others that purchased the tyres will be notified by Goodyear. Dealers will replace the tyres with similar ones free of charge. The recall starts on October 16.
People who own the affected tyres can call Goodyear’s customer service hotline as well.
Tireco Inc., a private brand marketer and distributor of tyres and tyre-related products in North America, is also recalling around 11,904 pieces of certain Milestar BS623 tyres, size 225/70R 19.5 G/14, manufactured June 23, 2013 to January 24, 2015.
The Milestar tyres were improperly labeled, thus failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The improper tyre ratings may lead to inadvertent overloading of the tyres by the users, possibly resulting in tyre failure and a crash.
The recall is expected to begin on October 10. Tyre owners will be notified by Tireco and provided with a refund.
