Ohio-based tyre and rubber company, Goodyear Tyre & Rubber Company said 75% of drivers are not yet ready for wet and snowy roads this winter season.
The company has conducted a survey in North America to know if drivers are already prepared to drive during the winter season. The lack of preparedness during this season, the season in which driving believes to be more challenging because of the wet and snowy roads can lead to road misadventures.
The company found out through the survey that drivers are not equipped with the right tyres for their vehicles during winter and are also not prepared to slow down when driving. Only a few drivers have been found out to take basic safety measures prior to the season. The data show that only 75% of the drivers believe that winter tyres are essential to use during the winter and 58% do not use winter tyres. Most of the drivers who have been part of the survey are those that were not involved in a car winter accident yet.
“Simple things, such as equipping your car with a set of winter tires, can make the difference in challenging winter driving conditions,” said Brandy Gadd, marketing manager for Goodyear. “A set of superior-performing winter tires, such as Goodyear’s Ultra Grip Ice WRT tires, helps provide consumers with the superior traction they need to confidently drive in ever-changing winter conditions.”
More than 7 out of 10 of the 73% says that they drive just as much as during the winter and other seasons and 19% of them claimed to have been driving at the same speed even with wet and slippery roads.
The survey also shows that 24% of the drivers wait for the first storm to attack before they use winter tyres instead of doing it ahead of time. 25% of the drivers are also unaware of the essence of using winter tyres during winter. But, even if using winter tyres, they are still not safe enough to drive during the winter season. (RJA)
