Falken Tyre India Pvt. Ltd (FTI), a joint venture of Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) and Singapore-based Stamford Tyres, has received official approval to resume its head office operations in Gurgaon, northern India, on May 19, 2020. FTI is one of the first few foreign tyre manufacturers to get the approval, on condition that they follow the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs’ guidelines.
As such, FTI has conducted several health awareness, safety, and hygiene related campaigns for its returning employees and ensured a safe and hygienic working environment to operate with minimum staff strength. FTI’s remaining employees have been asked to work from home, where applicable.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has pushed India to take stringent measures to contain and reduce transmission of the virus, such as the national lockdown which has exceeded 50 days already. COVID-19 has nevertheless affected the economy and presents a significant challenge to manufacturers who were forced into either partial or full lockdown, to help flatten the COVID-19 curve.
Commenting on the early resumption, Satoru Ushida, Managing Director of FTI said, “We have been vigilant in monitoring the governmental guidelines and our emphasis is on the safety of our employees while delivering the service which Falken promises to its customers and business partners.
“The early resumption of our offices will bring about greater confidence in our customers and in our business partners that we, at FTI, are together with them and will overcome COVID-19 as one.”
