DR JOACHIM STORSBERG, Head of the Department Functional Medical Polymers of Fraunhofer, will be discussing latex dispersions for coatings and films – synthesis, analysis and applications at the upcoming Latex Conference to be held September 10-11 in Kuala Lumpur.
Storsberg tells the event organiser, Smithers Rapra, “The presentation will cover multiple aspects of synthetic dispersion and their applications in different technical fields. It will show how dispersions can be used to easily modify the surface properties of different materials, as well as the aspects of synthesis and analysis, which are very important also in respect to residues of reactive reagents”.
Storsberg started with rubber and latices during his Masters and as a Ph.D student. A part of his research at this time revolved around the establishment of emulsion-free polymerisation methods using cyclodextrins as carriers/solubilisers for hydrophobic monomers.
As he progressed from his studies and into his career in R&D, Storsberg went from developing tailored surfactants to his current position at Fraunhofer, where his focuses vary across a range of topics including the synthesis of latices to the development of synthetic dispersions that are used for manufacturing medical devices.
As a past attendee of previous Latex & Synthetic Polymer Dispersion conferences, Storsberg has found the networking opportunities and informative presentations the reason for his return, as do other previous delegates registered amongst some of the newer participants for 2013, which include companies such as Alpha Nanotech, Getahindus, LG Chemical Ltd., Molnlycke Health Care, RLA Polymers, Rubberex, Sumirubber Malaysia and Synthos SA.
“Latex 2013 is an excellent and fruitful occasion to know about the latest trends, products, R&D and also about the needs in latex and rubber industry, gaining and sharing information.. as in the past years, it is a excellent opportunity and location for networking and listening to very informative talks and presentations. During the context, one also gets the feeling for the industrial need, so R&D can be addressed to this topics.” says Storsberg.
