AN additional EUR90.75 million (US$118.64 million) fine has been charged to Italian oil and gas firm Eni for its role in a 2006 synthetic rubber cartel case, according to EU antitrust regulators.
Earlier, in 2006, the European Commission penalised Eni and its Versalis unit, previously known as Polimeri Europa, a total of EUR272.25 million for participating in a cartel along with five other companies, including Germany’s Bayer , U.S. company Dow and Shell .
The second round of fines has previously been advised to Eni and Versalis by the EU competition authority, saying that the additional sum would be reimposed because it was a repeat offense.
