Elasto Proxy offers solid rubber profiles

Elasto Proxy, global supplier of specialty seals and custom insulation, announces solid rubber profiles that combine design flexibility with high tensile strength. These rubber extrusions have a fixed cross-sectional shape and are harder and more resistant to compression than sponge profiles. Typically, solid rubber profiles are made of materials such as silicone, nitrile, neoprene, TPE, or EPDM.

Elasto Proxy also designs and custom fabricates solid rubber profiles for a wide range of industries. The company’s solutions providers also help industrial buyers evaluate rubber materials based on properties such as service temperature and thermal expansion. By applying its application knowledge and technical expertise, Elasto Proxy recommends rubber products with the right characteristics.

Choosing the Right Rubber

Solid profiles made of silicone can withstand temperature extremes. These rubber extrusions are used in applications ranging from oven door seals to refrigerator and freezer seals. Extruded silicone rubber profiles are also good for high-temperature gaskets in industrial applications. Neoprene rubber profiles also provide good resistance to heat, as well as resistance to oil and weathering.

EPDM profiles and nitrile profiles are also recommended for some applications. Extruded EPDM rubber profiles offer outstanding heat, ozone, and weather resistance, good steam resistance, and excellent electrical insulation. These solid rubber parts come in different densities and are often used in gaskets.

Nitrile rubber provides excellent resistance to oils, solvents, and fuels. Known also as Buna-N, this extruded rubber compound is a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. Nitrile rubber provides good abrasion resistance, resilience to temperature extremes, and impermeability to gas.

Elasto Proxy also offers solid rubber profiles made of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), a group of rubber-like materials that combine the processing strengths of thermoplastics with the best qualities of thermoset rubbers. Although TPE has a higher material cost than other rubber materials, solid TPE profiles can be cost-effective for small runs because thermoplastic elastomers cure right away.

Types of Solid Rubber Parts

In addition to compound selection and durometer (hardness), buyers of solid rubber profiles need to consider part shape. Elasto Proxy offers standard and custom-fabricated rubber bumpers, c-channels, e-strips, glazing seals, j-seals, p-strips, quad, square and round cords, tubing, u-channels, rubber strips, locking and self-locking channels and zipper strips.

When evaluating solid rubber profiles by shape, Elasto Proxy considers all of a partner’s application requirements. For example, rubber bumpers provide shock absorption and traction. These solid profiles can be recessed or threaded, too. Depending on the material compound, solid rubber bumpers may also resist moisture, dust, and corrosion.
