ContiTech AG, a subsidiary of the Continental Corporation, begins constructing a new conveyor belt production facility in Morocco. Production is set to begin in the middle of next year.
The ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group business unit will manufacture textile and steel cord conveyor belts in the 6,000-square-meter plant in Jorf Lasfar, in the west of the country, creating around 120 jobs.
The construction of the new location is part of a cooperation agreement with the Moroccan state-owned phosphate producer OCP S.A. “Morocco has the largest phosphate reserves in the world. The framework agreement and the new plant will strengthen our commitment in this important market,” explains Hannes Friederichsen, head of the ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group business unit.
In June 2014, ContiTech and OCP concluded a strategic supply and cooperation agreement. The agreement governs ContiTech’s provision of conveyor belts for OCP. “We have already been working successfully with ContiTech for 20 years,” emphasizes Mustapha EL Ouafi, Vice Chairman of OCP S.A.
“Our large production capacities are supported by mining and production facilities of the highest caliber, equipped with large conveyor systems that enable them to provide a continuous transport service.” Over 700 kilometers of conveyor belts are running smoothly in the value chain, among them conveyor belts from ContiTech.
“The local production facility will allow us to offer our customers an even better local service,” says Claus Peter Spille, head of the Mining World segment at the ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group. In Jorf Lasfar, the company is located right next to the OCP Group. The plant will also supply customers in the Maghreb region and in Sub-Saharan Africa.
