Chemtura and Caterpillar are partnering to develop new applications for construction and mining equipment, such as urethane tyes, utilising Chemtura’s Duracast hot-cast urethane pre-polymer technology.
Amongst the products to be developed are the non-pneumatic tyres for some Cat machines.
The technology will also be used in equipment and applications that have not previously used urethanes.
Chemtura said prototypes are now being developed with field evaluation to be conducted by early 2013.
Matthew Hellstern, General Manager and President of Chemtura’s urethanes business says that the versatility and superior abrasion characteristics of this technology can yield a wide range of applications.
Other potential applications of Duracast technology may include debris guards for use behind tyres, ground engagement accessories and wear reduction coatings. (RJA)
