Global natural rubber (NR) production rose by 3.2% in the first nine months of the year, reaching 9.9 million tonnes, while global demand saw a more modest increase of 1.4%, reaching 11.3 million tonnes over the same period. However, the NR market is expected to experience supply constraints due to recent natural disruptions, including typhoon Yagi and widespread flooding across key NR-producing regions in China, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) has adjusted its projections in light of these developments. Following updated figures from Indonesia, global NR production is expected to grow by 3.2% for the year. Meanwhile, the forecast for global demand has been revised to a 0.4% year-over-year increase, accounting for changes in key markets like China, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
These adjustments reflect the ongoing challenges the NR market faces as it responds to fluctuating demand and climate-related impacts on supply, highlighting the importance of monitoring production and environmental factors in key NR-producing regions.
The ANRPC, representing 13 countries—including Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam—accounts for approximately 84% of global NR production as of 2022.
