A Kamloops spray park in south-central British Columbia (BC), Canada, has installed a rubberised play surface made of recycled scrap tyre materials – the new rubber surface is expected to greatly improve safety and accessibility of the original concrete surface of the Westsyde Spray Park in Kamloops City.
The City received an US$18,000 grant from the Tire Stewardship BC 2020 Community Grant Program for the construction of the rubber play surface, which was installed recently while the playground and splash park were closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A rubberised spray park surface was chosen to significantly improve the safety and accessibility for all users compared to the existing concrete,” said the city’s parks and civic facilities manager, Jeff Putnam. “The rubberised surface also boasts environmental benefits of using recycled materials and has reduced need for maintenance.”
