Bluestar Silicones expanded its elastomer capabilities, adding silicone custom compounding to its offering. The company will promote heat cured rubber (HCR), as well as its liquid silicone rubber (LSR) for healthcare and long term implant applications and room temperature vulcanized silicones (RTVs), at the International Elastomers Conference in Cleveland, October 13 to 14.
Bluestar Silicones new custom compounding operation is supported by Bluestar Silicones high performance bases, a full range of functional and color additives, unique and patented additives and a global technical and manufacturing expertise network.
The company offers a new generation of fire resistant HCR silicones for safety cables designed to meet the highest dielectric, heat stability and fire resistance requirements of the market, resulting in low smoke for better visibility and safety for emergency responders. Other applications for custom compounding include wire and cable, electrical insulation, automotive and transportation, building and construction, and consumer goods.
As part of its growth plans around elastomers, Bluestar Silicones expanded its LSR manufacturing capacity in York, South Carolina to meet the growing market needs. The company’s LSR product line offers high-performance physical properties in easy-to-process formulations, yielding higher productivity and less defects for molders.
Bluestar Silicones uniquely offers ultra-low durometer LSRs, including 01 and 05 ShA, with exceptional high tear strength and elongation for soft cushioning and vibration dampening applications.
The company expanded its LSR product line to include LSRs for long-term implant applications. Marketed as Silbione Biomedical grade LSRs, these materials are manufactured and packaged in Class 7 and Class 8 clean rooms.
