Biesterfeld expands in Asia through acquisition of Singapore distribution firm

Germany-headquartered distribution firm Biesterfeld SE continues its global growth course. GME Chemicals (S) Pte Ltd, part of the Biesterfeld Group since 2021, has acquired the entire distribution business of Singapore-based Tat Lee Engineering Private Limited. Terms were not disclosed.

Tat Lee is active in the manufacturing and supply of gaskets and related sealing products as well as in the distribution of specialty lubricants and high-performance silicone materials in Singapore. In its distribution business, Tat Lee works primarily with the global suppliers DuPont and Dow Chemical.

With the acquisition of the distribution business, GME Chemicals obtains the distribution rights for the specialty lubricants Molykote from DuPont and the Dowsil silicone materials from Dow:

  • Molykote products are designed to increase the reliability and longevity of mechanical components by reducing friction, wear and corrosion in various industries such as automotive, and aerospace. These include extreme temperature lubricants, greases, oils and pastes, and anti-friction coatings that provide protection in demanding environments.

  • Dowsil are mainly silicone-based products that have been specially developed for the automotive, electronics and lighting industry. They offer solutions for performance, protection and manufacturing efficiency. Key products include materials for thermal management, encapsulants and potting compounds, silicone adhesives and sealants and conformal coatings.

With the acquisition, a team from Tat Lee of four in sales and customer service will also join GME Chemicals.

Stephan Glander, CEO of Biesterfeld SE, explains: “Since the acquisition of GME Chemicals in 2021, we have been steadily and successfully expanding our business in the fast-growing region of Southeast Asia. The acquisition is a further step and strengthens our presence in Singapore and the region.”

Philip Chew, Managing Director GME Chemicals/Member of the Executive Board of Biesterfeld SE, says: “This aligns perfectly with our vision 2030 to grow broader by strengthening our market presence and dive deeper by enhancing our expertise in high-performance products.  With this, we can provide our customers with even more comprehensive and tailored solutions.”

Biesterfeld SE is the strategic holding company of the Biesterfeld Group, one of the international leading distribution and service companies in the field of plastics, rubber and specialty chemicals.
