Representatives from various associations in the rubber industry in Malaysia meet with the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) to request for an investment allowance for 30 years.
The associations that attended the meeting were the Malaysian Rubber Products Manufacturer’s Association, Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association, Malaysian Association of Tyre Retreaders and Dealers Societies and Malaysian Standard Malaysian Rubber-SMR Rubber Processors Association.
“About five years back, we had extended that provision to 15 and now they request for 30. 15 years are sufficient. Any new incentives will be reflected in next year’s budget,” Miti Deputy Minister Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan said.
The meeting also covered a discussion regarding investment incentives, foreign workers, minimum wage, taxation, water and electricity and utility-related matters gas.
“The representatives seemed satisfied with our discussion today (yesterday), although issues pertaining to minimum wages and foreign workers need further looking into. We have to look at the implications as our decisions on these worrisome matters affect other industries as well,” the deputy minister added.
For the past few months, the Minimum Wage Act has been a controversial issue for the politicians as they argue about various factors such as the foreign workers and the increase in productivity. (RJA)
