High performance capabilities and a smooth, quiet ride don’t need to be mutually exclusive, says the national marketing and training manager for Kumho Tyres Australia, David Basha.
“The Solus HS51 is the beginning of a new era in high performance tyres,” Basha was quoted saying in a press release.
“Traditionally low profile performance tyres have been noisier and come with a slightly harsher ride but the HS51 will redefine how we think of ultra-high performance tyres.”
Kumho says the key to the new tyre’s ability to reconcile the two factors centres on a new non-directional tread and the compound used.
The tread uses a centralised ribbed pattern with reinforced blocks to help minimise in-cabin road noise and reduce braking distances, particularly in wet conditions. The tyre is further helped in wet conditions by its ability to disperse water via four wide, lateral grooves, while a strengthened shoulder helps provide stability at high cornering speeds. High-grip silica compounds also play a role in ensuring all-weather performance.
Skid pan tests comparing the new Solus HS51 tyre with an earlier Kumho equivalent showed improvements in every area of wet and dry handling, including braking.
According to David Basha, the company has done an excellent job with the new tyre.
“The research and development team has outdone itself in the creation of the HS51,” he said.
“The Solus HS51 tyre proves there is such a thing as smooth performance motoring.”
The new Kumho Solus HS51 tyre is Available in 32 sizes from 15 to 17 inches. Included in this are 14 sizes with an XL extra-load rating suitable for a range of locally made and imported vehicles including BMW 3 Series, Audi TT, A3 and A4, Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and “many Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Kia and Hyundai models.”
The company also offers a one-year “No Worries” road hazard warranty that, for $3.95 per tyre, covers damage caused by debris, potholes and gutters.
