Total’s French refineries strike ends, results in million barrels of oil shortfall

totalWORKERS strikes at five of Total’s refineries in France have stopped and resumed work within the week. Operations resumed after employees at Gonfreville voted to return to work, according to the CGT union, one of the country’s largest unions. The industrial dispute was started 13 December.

The 247,000 barrel/day refinery at Gonfreville in northern France, the largest of Total’s sites, has started operating.
The 153,000 barrel/day refinery at La Mede had lifted the strike earlier.

According to reports, France have lost an estimated 5.1 million barrels of distillates and 2.5 million barrels of gasoline production during the strikes.

The action, participated by 80% of the workforce was called in dispute over wages, nearly crippling the company’s operations and affecting the region’s styrene and mixed xylenes.
