IN a voluntary move, Michelin North America has recalled some 841,000 BFGoodrich and Uniroyal tyres produced at its Tuscaloosa and Woodburn plants, following safety risk reports to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
While there had been no fatalities or casualties reported from these tyres, tread loss and/or rapid air loss, resulting from tread belt separation and predisposing the risk of vehicle crash, have been noted. Two sizes of the tyres that are typically used for commercial light trucks and full-sized heavy duty vans are affected. The said tyres, sold only as replacements were manufactured beginning in April of 2010 and are no longer being produced.(PRA)
