Tredagain introduces footwear line made from upcycled tyres

TredagainTredagain, a sustainable footwear company based in Austin, Texas, presents its new line of fashionable, durable and high-quality shoes made with upcycled scrap tyres.

They are the first footwear company to integrate APX® into their products. APX® is a 100% clean virgin rubber substitute made through a proprietary process that takes tyres at the end of their useful life and upcycles them into useable rubber. This process achieves Tredagain’s mission to keep old tyres out of landfills while creating long-lasting, lightweight and highly slip-resistant shoes at the same time.

“Every year, 300 million scrap tyres are generated in North America alone, and it is our mission to provide an economically competitive and earth-friendly alternative to junking them,” said TREDAGAIN President Fitz Lee. “With our goal to keep at least 3,000 scrap tyres out of landfills this year, we are setting a new standard for footwear where true sustainability matters.”

Other “green” footwear brands typically contain 3% upcycled material or even less. But unlike these other sustainable footwear brands that contain minimal amounts of recycled product, Tredagain uses at least 50% upcycled material in their sandals.

Tredagain gets to keep one passenger car tyre out of a North American landfill for every five pairs of shoes they sell.  The company currently has its inaugural line of flip-flop-style sandals in a range of six colors available for men and women.
