Yokohama India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is to double capacity at one of its plants located in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, to 1.6 million tyres per year; the initial capacity was 0.7 million tyres manufactured per year. Yokohama India commenced the new operations after phase II expansion at the plant was established.

“In response to the increasing demand for Yokohama tyres in India and keeping in mind the projected market growth, we decided to double our domestic manufacturing capacities,” said Anil Gupta, Vice Chairman, Yokohama India. “The new Phase-2 facility is fully equipped to meet Indian market needs. This development also creates more job opportunities locally. Currently the Bahadurgarh plant has over 500 employees and now with increased production we see the number going over 700.”

“Incidentally it has happened at an opportune time as restrictions on import of tyres have been announced by the government,” he added.

Yokohama India has been supplying high quality passenger car and SUV tyres, since 2007, in the Indian market – it acquired the technological expertise from its parent company in Japan which has resulted in the mass manufacturing of its extremely popular Geolandar A/T along with Geolandar SUV, BluEarth-RV02. These are manufactured in the state-of-art facility in Haryana. Various new models are also manufactured to meet the changing needs of Indian automobile owners.

Globally, the Yokohama Rubber Company supplies tyres to many renowned car manufacturers like Audi, Honda, Mercedes Benz, Suzuki, and Toyota in addition to selling them in the replacement market.
