US company expands to Brazil

US-based Lehigh Technologies, manufacturer of sustainable, micronised rubber powders, has expanded to Brazil, based on the country’s establishment of tyre collection in 1999 and its legislation on dealing with scrap tyres, setting targets for collection and proper disposal for tyres through the National Council of the Environment (CONAMA).

According to ANIP (Association of Tire Manufacturers), US$143.6 million has been invested for proper disposal of 3,770 million pounds of end-of-life tyres from 1999 to June 2011. Lehigh says this was a vital factor in the expansion of its footprint, indicating market interest in sustainability.
