Top Glove workers put under lockdown amid COVID-19 outbreak

The male and female workers dormitories of Top Glove Corp. Bhd. (Top Glove), located in Klang, West Malaysia, will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) beginning Nov 17 until Nov 30. The area around the dormitories in Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8 and Jalan Abadi 10/KU8 will also be subject to the EMCO following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

As at Nov15, there were 215 positive cases, according to Senior Minister of Security Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He said that placing the area under an EMCO would allow health authorities to conduct targeted screening and risk evaluation on workers and residents in the affected area(s).

The EMCO will affect around 5,700 workers or 27% of Top Glove’s workforce; most of those affected are asymptomatic.

“The Top Glove management must carry out screening on all of its factory workers and on hostels which supply workers to the factory [and] sanitisation of the factory premises must be done immediately,” Ismail added.
