Producers go skeptical with low SBR prices

STYRENE- butadiene rubber (SBR) may continue to decline slowly, based on reports from China. This price fall is caused by falling butadiene (BD) prices. The latest BD price is about US$3,889 to US$3,968 per tonne.

Local BD rubber producers, however, feel that the low price of BD is only temporary. Due to thinning supply, the cost of other raw materials such as non-oil filled grade of SBR 1502 rubber is currently at US$3,903 per tonne, higher compared to US$79.36 per tonne in March. Recently, Jilin Petrochemical announced plans of temporarily closing its SBR facility for maintenance this mid-May. The plant has an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes. (PRA)
