Performance-Additives achieves ISO1400 certification

Speciality chemicals company, Performance-Additives has demonstrated a systematic approach to the identification, control and management of its environmental impact. The company recently achieved ISO14001:2004 certification.
The company said it already had a number of good environmental practices in place but this certification provides a platform on which it can extend those procedures.
According to Mike Wolers, CEO, some companies don’t yet require their contract manufacturers to have ISO14001 but because the environment is becoming a sensitive issue, it is inevitable that it will become mandatory.
“The environment is also important for Performance-Additives. In working towards compliance we have been able to review all our business and operational processes and establish objectives to reduce our environmental impact. It is anextra step along a journey we have mapped out for ourselves, a tangible recognition of the hard work of the team at Performance-Additives, and confirmation of our commitment to working responsibly with all our customers,” said Wolers.
The ISO 14001:2004 is an environmental management standard that aims to reduce adverse impacts on the environment as a result of the manufacturing activities of organisations.
“By improving and monitoring our environmental performance, we demonstrate our corporate responsibility to attain a safe and healthy work place, our contribution to safeguard the environment, and our commitment to customer satisfaction,” explained Wolers.
“The next step will be the exact determination of the carbon foot print of our products. We always paid attention to the use of sustainable raw materials, and have our manufacturing location where the transportation of goods and materials have the smallest possible impact on carbon oxide generation.”
Performance-Additives’s plant in Subang Jaya produces additives for the rubber and plastics industries.
New plant; new customer service centre

Last year, the Malaysian company made two major achievements – establishment of a USfacility in New Philadelphia, Ohio, and a centralised customer service centre in Malaysia. All these were done to help maximise customer satisfaction, maximise its responsiveness to change, and provide a framework for effective communications.
“After almost a year of operations, we’re happy that we established our customer service centre as well as our new manufacturing facility to follow our principle of being close to the raw material sources and to our customer base,” said Wolers.

Mike Wolers, president of the operation, addressed in his remarks some of the reasons for PAs decision on the New Philadelphia location. Besides logistics, he emphasized on the availability of a highly qualified and loyal work force in the region
Opened in mid-2011, the US facility manufactures speciality chemicals predominantly for export into the APAC and European market place. The facility sits on an area of over 14,000 sq m, with plenty of space for future expansion.
