Momentive to showcase new self-bonding liquid silicone rubber at Chinaplas

MomentiveMomentive Performance Materials Inc., a worldwide leader in silicones and advanced materials, will introduce a new self-bonding liquid silicone rubber (LSR) series at Chinaplas 2017 to be held in Guangzhou, China from May 16 to 19, 2017.

The self-bonding technology offered by the Silopren LSR 27×9 series enables the efficient one-step over moulding of silicone elastomers with thermoplastics and other selected substrates.

Silopren LSR 27×9 liquid silicone rubber series can adhere to many substrates, such as PC (polycarbonate), PBT and polyester without the need for surface treatment and without adhering to metal molds.

The new LSR also offers strong in-mould adhesion with PC without the need for primers. Silopren LSR 27×9 also allows short cycle times and one step curing to improve productivity and enhance design freedom. This series can be used in low temperature moulding and is flexible enough to be used with a variety of molding processes.

These attributes make Silopren LSR 27×9 series excellent for applications that require waterproofing, durability, soft touch feeling, aging stability, and other potential soft-hard design combinations. Silopren liquid silicone rubber is also available in medical grades.

In addition to Silopren LSR 27×9 series, Momentive will showcase new solutions for a number of industries including consumer goods, electronics, healthcare, medical and automotive. At booth K61 in hall 12.2, the company will display a comprehensive set of silicone elastomers and silanes which can be considered for use in a number of applications in the plastics and rubber industries.

Silicone Elastomers

Within the Elastomers product range, Momentive will demonstrate its latest advancements in liquid silicone rubber (LSR), new self-bonding LSR for PC, self-lubricating LSR, and new ultra clear LSR.

  • Silopren LSR 27×9 series
The new self-bonding technology can enable the efficient one-step over molding of silicone elastomers with thermoplastics and other selected substrates. It can adhere to many select substrates, particularly for PC (polycarbonate), PBT, and polyester. It offers strong in-mold adhesion with PC without the need for primers, without the need for surface treatment. Additionally, it can allow short cycle times and one step curing to help improve productivity and enhance design freedom.
  • Ultra ClearSilopren LSR 7000 series
By providing optical clarity, durability and design freedom, the Ultra Clear Silopren* LSR 7000 series can serve a wide range of industries and applications where the combination of high transparency, excellent heat and radiation resistance with high yield production in low cycle times is relevant. These types of applications include interior/exterior lighting, electronics automotive lighting, solar and etc.

In cooperation with Multitech, Silicone Service and 2KM, Momentive will showcase two demonstrations of the new self-bonding LSR and new ultra clear LSR at Multitech (hall 4.1, booth J61). With an injection moulding process there will be produced two-component design objects.

  • Silopren LSR 4655 SL liquid silicone rubber
This self-bonding LSR can allow health care device designers and equipment manufacturers to introduce advanced material features to critical applications such as needle-free access valves, o-rings, stoppers, and other assembled parts.
  • Silopren LSR 3696/25 liquid silicone rubber

This new self-lubricating LSR provides an ultra-low compression set, low hardness and low modulus. Given the complexity created in miniaturization of connectors, it can be beneficial for family or mat seals in connector applications.

Extended LSR Application Development Capability in Nantong, China

  • To increase value to our customers, the Nantong, China facility has expanded the capabilities of its LSR team. This facility can now support customers with LSR customisation, injection processing and mould design and tooling. These new capabilities will help customers develop a total material solution from the design stage through to production and can help shorten development time.

Silanes
Incorporation of Momentive’s silanes can help improve overall properties of thermoset, thermoplastics and plastics by promoting adhesion, coupling, or crosslinking by reducing mixing viscosity; improving filler dispersion; or reducing heat during extrusion. Momentive will display the following silane products on Chinaplas:

PEarlene silicone masterbatches: By modifying the rheological characteristics of the moulding compound, improving its lubricity and reducing friction, PEarlene silicone master batches help increase fabrication efficiency. In addition to better scratch and mar resistance, finished components made with PEarlene silicone master batches typically feature enhanced impact resistance and a lower coefficient of friction.

Tospearl light diffusion microsphere resins: Momentive Tospearl products’ highly uniform particle size, heat resistance, premium antiblock properties and low coefficient of friction make these T resins valuable components to consider for use in various films in the food, beverage and packaging industries.

Silquestsilane: Versatile and possessing the ability to react with a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, Silquestsilanes work effectively as coupling agents, crosslinking agents and surface modifiers. Silquestsilanes have been used in high-strength crosslinked plastics, easily dispersed fillers, and resilient adhesives and coatings.

Silox and Silcat specialties: Used in concert with high-performance master batch formulations and stabilised resins, Momentive’s Silox liquid grafting agents can help optimise the performance of polyethylene pipes. Momentive’s Silcatsilanes can help enable molded plastics makers to differentiate their products while keeping production costs low.
