Metzeler surfaces its all-new Sportec tyre dubbed the M7 RR, a tyre aimed at meeting the demands of riders who prefer a sportier style and who are looking for better all-rounder performance.

The Sportec M7 RR is derived from the successful M5 Interact tyre in the Sportec range, but it received a host of improvements which enhance performance in the wet and offer a more balanced feel in most scenarios. Compared to the M5 Interact tyres, the “land/sea” ratio has been revised for both front and rear tyres. The front tyre “sea” area went up from 12.6% to 14.7%, because it’s the front tyre which clears out most of the water from the road before the rear tyre reaches a certain spot.

The rear tyre has the same ratio reduced to 11.1% from 12.6%, but the redesigned grooves and their distribution offer better stability in the early lean angles, providing a much more stable feel even in the wet.
Metzeler promises longer life for the Sportec M7 RR, thanks to the new dual-compound structure. The new internal design of the tyre uses a stronger steel structure in the slick center area, for less heat build-up, even wear and better structural stability while accelerating hard. The less stiff steel structure on the shoulders allows the tyre to flex a bit more and provide extra grip.

At the same time, the shoulders are covered in 100% silica SiO2 compound for enhanced chemical grip in both dry and wet conditions, whereas the center strip uses 70% silica. The distribution of the compound is 40-20-40 for the shoulder-center-shoulder, respectively.

The German manufacturer also claims a 20% mpg improvement over the Sportec M5 Interact. Needless to say, the RR stands for Road Racing, with the tyre being recommended for both road and track. Check with Metzeler for sizing and availability.
